Good afternoon. Had lunch at a small Italian place near the park. Watched them set up for the fireworks on the Roberto Clemente bridge for after the game.
Mets taking early BP. Murphy, Evans, Chavez.
Pedro Martinez will make his fourth start since July 12 tonight. He’s been getting better, but he’s still Pedro and I can’t [...]
The Mets enter tonight’s game with a three-game winning streak, with the spark coming from Monday’s meltdown to the Pirates at Shea Stadium.
“We should have won that game,’’ Beltran said. “We let that game get away from us, and if we’re going to be the team we say we are, we can’t keep having games [...]
-Billy Wagner will throw a simulated game tomorrow instead of pitching in a rehab game at Single-A Brooklyn.
-Look for Eddie Kunz to be optioned when Wagner is ready. Manager Jerry Manuel said he’s not comfortable using Kunz with the game on the line.
-Ryan Church played in a rehab game in Florida and went 1-for-3 with [...]

David Wright has third. The Mets like Fernando Martinez in left. Ryan Church gets right.
So, where does Dan Murphy play next year on the major league level?
How about first?
GM Omar Minaya said the Mets haven’t decided yet on Carlos Delgado’s $16 million option or $4 million buyout.
Minaya said Murphy at first is something they might [...]
Greetings from Washington National Airport. Have you had your Egg McMuffin today?
I liked that they put away Washington. The Nationals are such a miserable team. If you’re in a pennant race you have to beat teams like that.
Oliver Perez has been superb since beating the Yankees at the end of June.
“I feel like a pitcher,” [...]
Oliver Perez tonight for the ballclub. Including his win over the Yankees, June 29, the first game with his modified delivery, Perez has made eight starts and has gone at least six innings in all of them (four times he’s gone at least seven) and given up 11 runs.
-John Maine says he’s a little sore, but it is normal post-game soreness.
-Billy Wagner is still on for tonight at Binghamton.
-Brian Stokes might have won the long-man role with four scoreless last night.

-We should get some rehab news on Billy Wagner and Luis Castillo.
-Ryan Church? It’s getting tiring to say, but I have heard nothing new.
-Oliver Perez going for the club tonight. An earlier post made a good comment when he said Perez gets up for the hard teams, but lets up against the weaker teams. Washington, [...]
I received a message this morning from a reader who wanted to know why the Nationals kept Bergmann in the game during the eight-run inning.
Answer: The Nationals’ bullpen had been overworked lately, the game was fast becoming a rout, and Manny Acta decided Bergmann should take one for the team.
-John Maine said there was a little soreness, but nothing he couldn’t pitch through. Jerry Manuel said he would have liked to have gotten another inning from him, but he was right not to push it.
-Good job by Brian Stokes. Maybe he’ll be the long man they’ve been missing.
-The offense woke up, but I liked [...]
Forget about John Maine in the bullpen. The Mets need him to give quality start innings. Manager Jerry Manuel said the bullpen is more a priority than what Maine can give the Mets as a starter.
I’m not buying that one for a second. If Maine spits the bit as a starter, it means the Mets [...]
The Mets clubhouse here is at least 20 times (according to the clubhouse manager) as big as they one they had at RFK.
Four TV’s in the main room. The Yankee game was on earlier. Now the Olympics. Another one is running a feature on Brett Favre.
Carlos Beltran is at a table drawing on a bat [...]
