At www.LoHud.com and in The Journal News today, there’s the story of Jerry Manuel going from interim manager to manager. The Mets finally confirmed a finalized deal a little after 10 last night. The fate of the coaches is up next. Their contracts are all up on Oct. 31.
“My policy is that the manager [...]

The team has yet to confirm that Jerry Manuel has agreed to terms, but SI.com says it has confirmed it.
The negotiations were supposedly snagged when the Mets just offered two years at first. But Omar Minaya had said on Thursday that the process was focused only on Manuel and he hoped to get a [...]

Today you can read all about Omar’s new long-term deal, that Carlos Delgado will at least have his option picked up, that Jeff Wilpon suspects there’s a winning intangible missing from this group and that the discussions with Jerry Manuel are continuing.
There’s also a to-do list for Minaya and top 5 lists of his best [...]

OK, we just had our telephone conference call with Omar Minaya and Jeff Wilpon. Get used to seeing Minaya around for a lot longer. His extension is for three years on top of the 2009 season, plus there are team options for 2013 and 2014.
“Omar is our guy,” Wilpon said.
Minaya is focused on getting Manuel [...]

Today in The Journal News and LoHud.com, there are details on John Maine’s shoulder surgery yesterday, which wasn’t a major deal. There’s also a column by Rick Carpiniello that leads with his thought that the Mets relied too much on four hitters. Think they should keep the big four—Wright, Reyes, Beltran and Delgado—and just tinker [...]

Check out today’s Journal News or LoHud.com (under the pro sports category) where I have some thoughts on how to fix the Mets. See if you agree. Or if you have other ideas, you can post your thoughts.
The top five list online just requires a click on the story about Omar Minaya’s goal to [...]

Today there was a lot of standing around the clubhouse, waiting for some players to trickle in and collect their stuff. And there was an Omar press conference, looking back and looking ahead. There wasn’t a lot of substance, more that the evaluation process has begun about why this team keeps finishing one game short.
“Why [...]

I will be at Shea later today to see if any players come to collect their belongings and share their thoughts.
So what changes would you like to see made? Seven new relievers? Break up the core group that hasn’t been able to do it in two straight Septembers, plus Game 7 in 2006? What do [...]

Good luck predicting what’s going to happen in the series finale and whether the Mets will get the wild card because this is one unpredictable team. Down one game, up the next. So who knows?
But anyone who was here today saw a great moment in Shea’s dwindling history with Johan Santana’s effort. There were some [...]

Well, Johan Santana sure hasn’t shown any ill effects from going on three days’ rest after throwing 125 pitches. His changeup has been wonderful so far through his first three innings, the out pitch for all five strikeouts. His K of Wes Helms gave him 200 strikeouts, the first Met to reach that mark since [...]

First of all, the tarp is on the field and first pitch will be delayed until 1:45, the Mets say.
Anyway big game today. Jerry Manuel shook up his batting order, saying he wanted to get his best guys the most at bats. Can’t hurt at this point, especially after what happened last night.
Here’s the Mets’ [...]

This was not the night to lose, not when you start out with three games left, not when the Phillies beat the Nats and the Brewers beat the Cubs. But give those teams credit and the Mets discredit for this 6-1 loss to the Marlins, who are treating this like their playoffs. So the Brewers [...]

Well, Mike Pelfrey did an adequate job, three runs, eight hits in six innings. But last night there was clutch hitting for the Mets. So far that’s what they have been lacking against Chris Volstad. Bases loaded two outs in the first, Ryan Church strands all three. First and second one out in the third, [...]

They just had a press conference to announce the results from the fan voting for the greatest moments in Mets history. No. 1 was Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. No. 2 was Mike Piazza’s homer in the first game here after Sept. 11. And No. 3 was the 1969 World Championship. Piazza was [...]
