Santana Done For Season

So the news is sort of good for Johan Santana, in the sense that lower back inflammation has finally forced the Mets to end his season already. That comes after the Mets had Santana pitch through previous back stiffness, an ankle injury and weakness in his shoulder that came about through pitching with an ankle injury and, you know, major shoulder surgery.
Anyhow, Santana is done for the year, and while the Mets are saying they are confident that he’ll be ready for 2013, they were also saying on Monday afternoon that he’d be good to go Thursday, only to revise that Monday night. I guess the point is, to paraphrase, that Lady Met has the right to change her mind, and frequently does.
As for Lady Luck, it wasn’t on the side of Kirk Nieuwenhuis, either, whose season-ending injury is relegated to wherever the other obits were the day Lincoln was shot. And Lady Edith, I confidently predict, will find a mate in Season 3 of Downton Abbey.
