…I wrote yesterday how the Mets were fine.
No. Not fine.
Omar Quintanilla hurt his finger making a diving stop last night. So he’s questionable for today’s game. Ronny Cedeno won’t begin rehabbing until next week at the earliest. That leaves David Wright and Jordany Valdespin. I’d prefer Wright on talent, but probably best to keep him away from shortstop, the way they keep dropping.
Meanwhile, Oswaldo Navarro, Buffalo’s current shortstop, can certainly field the position. But getting him to New York requires finding a spot on the 40-man roster for him, and that won’t be easy. It would require something like sending Reese Havens through waivers, which would be problematic. Havens is a good bet to be claimed, and to fill a short-term emergency, that strikes me as a bad bet.
So for now, it is Valdespin, and Wright backing him up. Hope nobody hits it to short is the real plan right now, though.
