Egbert DFA, Ramired DL, Young Back, Batista Backup

In case that’s not clear enough: Chris Young has been activated, and pitches tonight. Miguel Batista is around in case that goes poorly, or Jeremy Hefner struggles tomorrow. Jack Egbert has been designated for assignment, and figures to land back in Buffalo. Ramon Ramirez was injured running on the field to celebrate Johan Santana’s no-hitter. No, really. It’s a hamstring thing.
Jason Bay is expected to play the outfield tonight ahead of a tomorrow return. He was a late scratch Monday; trying to pin down why. Will update when that becomes clear.
Jon Rauch has debris in his elbow, and will miss the Nats series. Mets will play a man down, though Adam Rubin points out that’s actually two down in the bullpen, with the six starters and all. If you don’t count Miguel Batista, that’s three down. And you probably shouldn’t; he’s needed as long man backup right now.
Anote on tonight’s starter: Andy McCullough pointed out today, Chris Young’s stature makes his 82 MPH fastball look 87. You decide if that’s a compliment or not.
But given the way this season has gone, facing a first place team, throwing a just-returning starter coming back from shoulder surgery, followed by a guy who probably shouldn’t be in a big league rotation, sure sounds like two wins to me!
