Tejada To DL; Valdespin Up

So Ruben Tejada’s trip-and-fall at first base on Sunday has landed him on the Disabled List with a quad injury.
This is such a shame. Tejada was having a terrific season, with an on-base percentage of .362 and a slugging percentage of .400, while holding his own in the field.
So what now? Well, Jordany Valdespin is up, but Terry Collins has Justin Turner as his new shortstop, and David Wright as the backup. That’s right: the inadequate backup first baseman is now the starting shortstop, the backup is the starting third baseman (whose backup, remember, was Justin Turner), and that leaves the Mets without Turner, the previously-appointed inadequate backup first baseman, to backup Ike Davis.
Or just see my previous pieces about how problematic any-really, any- injury is for the Mets, since they lacked the financial wherewithal to build any depth within the organization.
It’s okay to be angry about that and still love how the group here has overachieved- in fact, remembering that this group has been sold short by a lack of reinforcements should only reinforce that frustration for you, in my opinion.
