Cedeno Placed on DL, Hefner Up For A Day

News out of Mets land: Ronny Cedeno has been placed on the 15-day DL with a strained intercostal muscle, which I believe is a muscle injured in either the Central or Mountain time zones.
The result has been roster madness. Since the Mets have a doubleheader starting momentarily, they called up Jeremy Hefner for a day, just to make sure they had an arm to soak up any extra innings that, say, Miguel Batista leaves out in the rain. Tomorrow, he’ll be replaced by Jordany Valdespin, though conflicting reports have the Mets making the change after Game 1 of today’s twin bill.
Brief scouting reports on both: Hefner is a poor man’s Jason Jacome, Valdespin a poor man’s Keith Miller.
The Mets delayed making this move official until just before the game, limiting San Francisco’s tactical options, according to Terry Collins. What a team can do with the knowledge that this one guy probably won’t ground out harmlessly, then stay in the game-but will find out prior to the game actually starting- is anyone’s guess.
