So the news on David Wright is… not good. Wright has a muscle tear in his rib cage, and will wait at least 48 hours for the anti-inflammatory shot he had to kick in before resuming any activities at all.
Wright said all the right things, and that’s great- but Wright’s attitude isn’t the problem here. His rib cage is. As Adam Rubin reported, “David Wright also said Opening Day is not in jeopardy in his mind.”
And hey, that’s great, too. Unfortunately, Opening Day isn’t played in David Wright’s mind. In my mind’s Opening Day, Jose Reyes is still playing shortstop for the Mets, and Jason Bay has been replaced by either a slightly younger Jason Bay, or more optimally, the much younger Jason Bay who had his whole career ahead of him when the Mets traded him away.
It isn’t clear whether the Moonlight Graham who is a promising outfielder, or the Moonlight Graham who is a doctor is there. The Mets need both.
Meanwhile, in reality baseball land, Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman had the identical injury, tried and failed to rehab it, had surgery, and missed 60 games. No word on how many games Zimmerman thought he’d miss in his mind, but the smart money is on “less than 60”.
A careful analysis of Dan Szymborski’s ZIPS projections for potential third base replacements will probably start you drinking, even this early in the day. (Hey, Mad Men returns March 25, after all.)

Push comes to shove, watch these geniuses finally land Murphy in the mental ward by moving him over to third for 60 games.
If Ike Davis missed the entire last season because of an ankle sprain, there’s a real chance that
D. wright will miss at least 2 years cause of the muscle tear.
Trade Wright for pitching, put Murphy at third, and start re-building in earnest. NOW.
Were sure getting a lot of spring training news on this blog. Not.
Actually, I wanted to comment on Mr. Megdal’s article in the Sunday, March 18, 2012 edition of the Journal News entitled “Wilpons fight to keep Mets”. Thank you for clearly explaining the particulars of the upcoming trial concerning the lawsuit brought by trustee for Bernie Madoff’s victims, Irving Picard. Based on your reporting, I would have to believe the Wilpons and Saul Katz are absolutely guilty of ignoring evidence of fraud. Hopefully, upon conviction, because of financially not being able to keep ownership of the Mets, they will forced to sell to someone who wants to field a team the long suffering fans deserve.
Wow, very interesting .. really glad I found the import and export of this .. can you recommend where I can find more in-depthinformation?
Yes. The New York State Psychiatric Institute. Check yellow pages for address. Just walk (or crawl) in and tell them you want to discuss third base. Bring toothbrush and assorted toiletries.
