Not a lot of good news, I’m afraid.
Sandy Alderson spoke with reporters and said the following:
Lefty reliever Tim Byrdak will have surgery on his torn meniscus, missing six weeks.
David Wright’s rib cage injury has not improved, and he’ll have ultrasound-guided injection to try and help it. No timetable has been given for Wright today, which is just as well, since all the previous timetables, which had him back by now, were wrong.
The Mets have yet to sign Suffern’s own C.J. Nitkowski, though he certainly seems like a good fit, given the injury to Byrdak. It could happen this week.
Scott Hairston, the team’s only real backup outfielder, is likely to start the year on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle.
Anything I am missing?
Look, I don’t take any pleasure from saying this. But a team that desperately needed everything to go right just to avoid dipping into a massive lack of depth- well, that isn’t happening. And if everything went right, they weren’t going to be a good bet to stay close to the other teams in the National League East.
On the plus side: lots of tickets are still available for Opening Day.
