BREAKING: Fireworks Night, Various Mets Players

Some good news and some unfortunate news out of Mets land this weekend. The good news? The Mets will be having a Fireworks Night [1] on July 3 against the Phillies. That still leaves them one shy of Philadelphia [2], but some fireworks are obviously better than no fireworks. The team will also be hosting some postgame concerts. REO Speedwagon was mentioned, which was apparently a band and not a car. Ah, what things we learn on life’s journey!
On the negative side, David Wright is out indefinitely with a strained ribcage, Scott Hairston re-injured the oblique strain that ended his 2011, Reese Havens is suffering from a stiff back, and Ike Davis has Valley Fever, which is totally not a big deal, according to the Mets, but then again, so was his ankle injury last year, the one that ended his season.
On balance, a good or bad weekend? Depends on how much you like REO Speedwagon. But you’d really have to like them to call it a win.
