Some good news and some unfortunate news out of Mets land this weekend. The good news? The Mets will be having a Fireworks Night on July 3 against the Phillies. That still leaves them one shy of Philadelphia, but some fireworks are obviously better than no fireworks. The team will also be hosting some postgame concerts. REO Speedwagon was mentioned, which was apparently a band and not a car. Ah, what things we learn on life’s journey!
On the negative side, David Wright is out indefinitely with a strained ribcage, Scott Hairston re-injured the oblique strain that ended his 2011, Reese Havens is suffering from a stiff back, and Ike Davis has Valley Fever, which is totally not a big deal, according to the Mets, but then again, so was his ankle injury last year, the one that ended his season.
On balance, a good or bad weekend? Depends on how much you like REO Speedwagon. But you’d really have to like them to call it a win.
Tomorrow: Actual baseball on TV!
