For those who haven’t seen on Twitter: @ThePhillyPhans is reporting that David Wright is going to be with the Phillies “very, very soon”.
Let me tell you what I know.
I know little about that site. This isn’t to disparage it- I just can’t vouch in any way for the site.
None of the sources I trust have anything on this yet. At the moment, no one is rushing to deny it. But there’s nothing to corroborate so far.
I’m about to pack it in for the holiday weekend. So I refuse to believe I’m about to deal with the aftermath of the Mets giving their fans a present to coincide with both Christmas and Chanukah of dealing David Wright.
Or I’ll put it another way: I’m going to need a lot more information than this to entertain the notion.
The deal is rumored to involve Domonic Brown. He’d be a nice fit. It isn’t out of line with the baseball deals and notions being put forth by this team- that is, building for the long-term. Wright just turned 29, and is only signed through 2012 (with an option for 2013).
Obviously, a Wright deal saves ownership a lot of money: $15 million next year alone.
Anyhow, that’s what I know. I don’t care if it is midnight on Christmas, I’ll update this blog if anything develops on the Wright front. That’s an especially easy thing for me to promise, since I’m Jewish, and used to working newsrooms on Christmas in exchange for getting covered on Yom Kippur.
But as of right now, that’s the only trade I can report.
Happy holidays, and cross your fingers.

If that ever happens it will be the final nail in the coffin for me….The Wilpons have destroyed this franchise…and I’ve been a Met fan since 1962
Happy hanukkah by the way and happy holiday to the rest of the readers. Please Mr. Wilpon I like and respect you especially since your a Brooklyn boy and a big fan of baseball but I think it’s time to move on and sell the team
Howard,
On Chanukah….....
Is there a barucha for the Mets keeping David Wright???? Maybe there’s a better prayer to get rid of the Wilpons!!!!!
If the Mets deal David, it’s time for MLB to step in. If you want to see the kind of baseball that the Mets are proposing, you can pay ten bucks to sit in the first row behind the Boulders’ dugout.
This just has to be a load of shit. I can’t imagine anything more awful than dealing David to the most hated team in the world, one that has a crappy farm system at that. I don’t want Domonic Brown, he sucked this year and there’s no chance he’ll ever be as good as Wright can be.
I’d take Brown for Wright in a minute if I’m the Mets. It should be Wright plus 1 or a wad of cash.
A lot of the Phillies beat writers have discredited this rumor. My favorite comment was a reference to overdosing on egg nog, which about sums it up.
“ThePhillyPhans” are a bunch of idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about. They tweeted this within the past hour: “The fact is this, we believe in our source so much that if it is wrong …. we will shut down #simple”
The majority of Philadelphia sports fans are anxiously awaiting the funeral of that chicken-dung blog.
While I don’t want to see Wright leave, especially to the Phillies, I don’t feel that his move is financially related. The Mets are rebuilding, regardless of if they admit it, and Wright would bring back quality pieces. Most fans mention trading guys like Bay and Santana, but they won’t help us rebuild, just dump unnecessary contracts.
I don’t know much about the Phillies prospects but Brown, Aumont, and some sort of catching prospect (or their remaining top prospect) would be worth it.
any update on this
