For the past few weeks, the Mets assured everyone that they would sign first-round pick Brandon Nimmo. The beat reporters said the same. Anyone I spoke to with knowledge said it.
So though Nimmo remained unsigned late into Monday evening, and the deadline for signing him was Midnight, I elected not to make it a concern of the blog.
Shortly after midnight tonight, Nimmo signed for $2.1 million, according to ESPN’s Keith Law. Slot for that pick was just over $1.6 million. I’ll have more on the full picture, but the Mets have done a great job going over slot this year-finally.
Don’t expect Nimmo anytime soon- he’s a raw high school outfielder. But he is an infusion of talent, and that is worth celebrating.
