UPDATED: Harris on Bereavement Leave; Martinez Up

In a progressive move, Major League Baseball added a rule allowing players to miss up to three days for paternity leave. The rule gives clubs a chance to add another player, rather than forcing expectant fathers to choose between employer and life-defining event.
Willie Harris is the latest Met to take advantage of this, heading back to New York tonight to be with his wife. Here’s hoping for an easy, joyous birth. And Fernando Martinez will fill his spot while Harris attends to his family.
UPDATE: Horrible news: Harris’s wife has lost their child. Harris has been transferred to the bereavement list, meaning he will be out three-to-seven days. Our thoughts go out to Willie and his family.
