Some disappointing news: RHP Pedro Beato, who pitched extremely well all season, has been placed on the fifteen-day DL with a sore elbow. LHP Mike O’Connor takes his place on the roster.
This reconfigures the bullpen a bit. Beato occupied the role of third-most-trusted reliever, behind Francisco Rodriguez and Jason Isringhausen. So it will be interesting to see who Terry Collins has next on the pecking order, some enchanted seventh inning.
O’Connor is an intriguing lefty, and can keep Tim Byrdak from warming up at Felicianan levels.
For Beato, the Rule V pick, let’s hope this is just precautionary. In his most recent outing, he pitched three scoreless innings on Sunday night against the Phillies. And he hasn’t allowed an earned run in 17 innings this season.
