Mets lose another game in extra innings

Mike Pelfrey actually made it to the fifth inning and only allowed two runs in the 13-inning affair against the Dodgers on Saturday afternoon. Things looked shaky again for him in the first, but he got out of it allowing a sacrifice fly to score the first run.
The Mets scored their only two runs of the game in the sixth inning off RBI singles by Jose Reyes and Rod Barajas. The Mets had plenty of chances, but they kept up their league-worst batting average with runners in scoring position.
The game ended on a solo homer by James Loney in the bottom of the 13th inning off Oliver Perez, who was working his second inning of relief. If Loney had not hit the game winner, he might’ve pitched the 14th as the Dodgers ran out of relievers.
As it was, the Mets lost their eighth game on the road trip and fell back to 7.5 games behind the Braves and a game and a half behind the Phillies. The Mets can’t get off the West Coast fast enough. They’ll wrap up their series this afternoon.
