Mets bitten by Diamondbacks, 13-2

In the shortest outing of his major league career, Mike Pelfrey didn’t last two innings as he allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks. He was pulled after throwing 74 pitches, 51 of which were in the first inning alone.
Poor defense didn’t help Pelfrey’s cause as Jose Reyes, perhaps shaking off some rust, committed two errors in the first two innings.
Even though the Mets had their full starting lineup for the first time this season, it didn’t look like it offensively. Luis Castillo came of the disabled list today and got two hits. Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes combined for three hits and an RBI. Angel Pagan drove in the other run in the second inning. David Wright added two more hits, raising his average to .312.
The bullpen was spotty as well. Raul Valdes and Elmer Dessens pitched a combined three scoreless innings, but Fernando Nieve allowed five runs, three of them off a home run by Mark Reynolds. In mop-up duty Pedro Feliciano also gave up two runs.
This was the fourth loss coming out of the All-Star break, but it could’ve and should’ve been five, if not for a bad umpire call in Sunday night’s game. The Mets are continuing their horrible road record and hope that R.A. Dickey can play stopper Tuesday night.
