Even though he wasn’t the Mets owner, George Steinbrenner still left a lasting impression on all of baseball, especially in New York City. Spokesman Howard Rubenstein said he died about 6:30 a.m. this morning from a heart attack.

George Steinbrenner, the iconic owner of the New York Yankees for more than three decades, died early Tuesday morning, after suffering massive heart attack at his home in Tampa, Fla. Steinbrenner was 80.
His family confirmed Steinbrenner’s death Tuesday morning in a statement.
The news came soon after multiple reports out of Tampa said Steinbrenner had been rushed to a Florida hospital after suffering a heart attack late Monday night.
“He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again,” the Yankees said in a statement. “He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family – his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer, Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren.”
Steinbrenner, or “The Boss” as he was known, had been in declining health in recent years. He was seen around the team less and less – both during the season and in spring training – after collapsing at a funeral for a friend in 2003.
Steinbrenner was the longest tenured owner in Major League Baseball, having owned the Yankees since 1973. The Yankees won 11 American League pennants and seven World Series titles under Steinbrenner, including last year’s World Series – their first at the new Yankee Stadium.
Steinbrenner turned 80 years old on July 4. As recently as Friday he was at the Yankees minor league complex in Florida where he told an Associated Press reporter he was “feeling good.”

Which is some inspiring stuff. In no way suspected that viewpoints could possibly be this different.
Nothing new here. This is operating simply the method the Yankees planned it: They definitely know how to control the post-season to their advantage by now.
