Tim Britton of MLB.com writes that Jerry Manuel has already announced the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Giants. He has penciled in Carlos Beltran in the cleanup spot.
Jesus Feliciano was sent down to Buffalo after Saturday’s game to make room for Beltran on the roster. Feliciano performed very well for the Mets during his stint in the majors. He had a .291 batting average, with two RBI, a stolen base and a walk. He also played well defensively.
David Wright will bat fifth in the National League lineup for the All-Star Game, ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin reports.
Jason Bay will be on the bench after the All-Star break, according to ESPN.com. Manuel had a 30-minute meeting with Francoeur to tell him the situation. It’s the right move, considering Francoeur has the coldest bat of all the outfielders. However, it’s unknown how Beltran will perform in his first Major League action of the season. One thing’s for sure. Francoeur’s rocket arm will be missed in right field. Hopefully, Francoeur won’t feel too slighted and Manuel will be able to get him into two or three games a week to spell Beltran or Jason Bay, who also has been struggling at the plate. It’s a problem but a good one to have.
