Mike Pelfrey gave up two runs in six innings, but it was enough to get his 10th win of the season. He is now tied for second for the most wins in the National League.
Denard Span did all the damage for the Twins, who have now lost four in a row, as he hit a solo shot in the first and an RBI groundout in the fifth.
The Mets offense was dormant in the first three innings against Twins starter Kevin Slowey, but they woke up in the fourth. Jose Reyes led off with a single. On a questionable managerial call, Jesus Feliciano sacrificed Reyes to third after Reyes advanced to second on a pickoff error.
David Wright doubled, driving Reyes home. Ike Davis then hit a single, but Wright held up at third. On a wide throw to home plate that got away from Joe Mauer, Wright scored. Jason Bay just missed a home run, scoring a huffing and puffing Davis from first.
The Mets would continue to tack on in the fifth and sixth. In the fifth, Ruben Tejada just missed his first home run of the season, but Reyes knocked him home with a sacrifice fly. Wright hit an opposite field homer, his 13th of the season, an inning later.
Bobby Parnell and Pedro Feliciano retired the sides in order in the seventh and eighth innings. Francisco Rodriguez made things interesting again in the ninth by allowing two base runners on soft hits. Once again, he got out of it, getting his 17th save of the season.
The Mets are 11 games over .5oo once again and will try to go a season-high 12 games over when Johan Santana faces his former team for the first time Saturday afternoon.
In other baseball news: Former Mets closer Billy Wagner picked up his 400th career save. The Braves won again, so the Mets are still a half-game behind them and two games up on the Phillies.
Diamondbacks pitcher Edwin Jackson threw a 149-pitch no-hitter against the Rays. He also walked eight. It was the second no-hitter in Arizona’s history.
