It’ll be a special night in the SNY broadcast booth after the third inning of the Mets vs. Tigers game today when Amazins’ fan Jerry Seinfeld joins Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez. He’s scheduled to provide commentary and banter for at least three innings.
Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Mets have signed right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz to a minor league contract. He will start in Buffalo tonight. The former Dodger had a 1-2 record with a 6.30 ERA with his former team. He pitched mostly in the bullpen and threw some long relief. He also started a few games with his best outing on May 8 vs. the Rockies. He allowed two runs in five innings with four strikeouts. However, in his last two starts, both against San Diego, he gave up eight earned runs in 7 1/3 innings.
Rob Parker, also of ESPNNewYork.com, wrote this piece on how the Mets are a playoff contender, especially after the beatdown they gave the Tigers last night at Citi Field.
Metsblog.com is reporting that John Maine has shoulder tendinitis as evidenced by two different doctors’ opinions. Of course, tendinitis is commonly used as an excuse to put someone on the disabled list for failure to perform (cough, cough, Oliver Perez), but usually that doesn’t get a second opinion.
