Mets trailing in All-Star fan voting

I know it’s been an uneven season and there isn’t a whole lot to cheer about at this point in the season. However, that doesn’t mean some Mets are not worthy of taking a trip to the All-Star game in July.
Rod Barajas, Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey are all names that come immediately to mind. Barajas leads all National League catchers with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. He’s fourth in runs scored and tied for fifth in hits.
The pitching race is a lot more contentious. Santana and Pelfrey are just two of the 20 NL pitchers who have an ERA under 3! It truly is the year of the starting pitcher. Pelfrey has the 10th lowest ERA with 2.39, while Santana’s last seven shutout innings improved his ranking to tied for 13th at 2.76. What is helping Pelfrey and hurting Santana is the number of wins they have. Pelfrey is tied for second most wins with eight, but Santana is languishing at four wins, tied for 34th place, thanks to poor run support. The fact that Pelfrey is the only qualified starter with a save under his belt should put him up closer to the top.
Beyond them, there aren’t a whole lot of Mets who are worthy of making the team this year. Jose Reyes is coming on strong now but had a very weak start. David Wright is good but not above average. The same goes for Jason Bay. His home run total is likely keeping him lower in the rankings.
This is how the voting stands so far:
Third base: Wright is second behind Placido Polanco of the Phillies by a good 120,000-plus votes.
Catcher: Barajas is not in the top five.
Shortstop: Reyes is not in the top five.
Outfield: Bay is 10th.
If you want to see any Mets in the All-Star game, it’s time to get out there and start voting. You don’t have any say in which pitchers get selected, but your votes could push Wright and Bay higher on the list, as well as get Barajas noticed. Vote for your favorite players .
