Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com is reporting that Daniel Murphy tore his MCL again after what is being called a dirty slide in Wednesday’s Buffalo Bisons game in which he was playing. The knee injury will sit him out for four to six months, but he will not need surgery.
It’s just another case of bad luck for the former Mets starting first baseman. He worked so hard to be able to contribute in some way, even beginning to play second base in the minors. Better luck next year, Murph.

The Mets made a very big mistake sending Murphy to AAA ball to learn to be a middle infielder. This is a level where many guys are desperate, fringe players having their last chance to get some big league time. Nobody is going to take it easy on a guy learning one of the hardest positions. If they wanted him to learn 2B he should have been in Florida until he was ready to play there. I heard stories it was a dirty slide but a guy who knows how to turn the double play also knows how to get away from a dirty slide. Murphy, not knowing watched the play at first instead of getting away. How would he know any different?
