Mets get taste of their own medicine, lose 2-0 to Brewers

It was the Mets’ turn to be shut out as the Brewers beat the Mets 2-0 after Corey Hart hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The pitching matchup lived up to the hype as Johan Santana and Yovani Gallardo went toe to toe. Neither pitcher allowed a run. Santana went eight innings, extending the Mets scoreless streak to 35 before Ryota Igarashi allowed the home run. Once again, Santana got no run support.
The Mets managed eight hits but could not take advantage of a third inning bases loaded situation. Miraculously, Gallardo was able to get out of the inning by throwing only 11 pitches and inducing a double play.
They also couldn’t capitalize in the eighth inning when Rod Barajas led off with a single. Jeff Francouer grounded into a double play. Johan Santana just missed hitting his first home run but got a double. Jose Reyes could not drive him home, however.
The Mets have now lost 15 games on the road and fall three games behind the Phillies, who beat the Marlins.
Fernando Nieve will take the mound on Saturday in a spot start until Jon Niese comes back off the disabled list. The Mets should have a better chance at scoring some runs as the Brewers will send up Manny Parra, who has a 1-3 record and a 3.54 ERA.
