The Associated Press is reporting that Major League Baseball has reprimanded the Phillies for allegedly trying to steal signs during their game with the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.
Bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer was seen on FSN Rocky Mountain with a pair of binoculars looking into Rockies catcher Miguel Olivo. Cameras also showed Phillies Shane Victorino on the dugout phone.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told The Associated Press somewhat confusingly: “We were not trying to steal signs. Would we try to steal somebody’s signs? Yeah, if we can. But we don’t do that. We’re not going to let a guy stand up there in the bullpen with binoculars looking in. We’re smarter than that.”
Well, do you or don’t you, Charlie?
Would you expect anything less from the Phillies? Do you consider trying to steal signs bush league or is it just part of the game?
