Mets win with second walk-off in a row

In the second straight game, a Mets catcher won the game with a walk-off home run. Last night, it was Rod Barajas in the bottom of the ninth. Today, it was Henry Blanco in the bottom of the 11th inning, beating the San Francisco Giants 5-4.
It was Blanco’s first home run of the season and it couldn’t have come at a better time. It was the sixth extra-innings game of the season.
Johan Santana pitched deep into the game, going 7 2/3, but he still allowed four runs. It was much better than the 10 runs he allowed in his previous start, but you’d still like to see him get back to form when he kept opposing teams to one or two innings.
Santana left in the eighth inning with a runner on first. Perpetual Fernando Nieve and Pedro Feliciano couldn’t get the final out, allowing a run to score to tie the game and make it a no-decision for Santana. Jenrry Mejia did get the final out.
A night after Francisco Rodriguez threw 28 pitches and blew the save, he came into the game today and pitched two scoreless innings. He made things interesting in the 10th by allowing a couple of base runners but managed to get out of the inning.
Hisanori Takahashi came into the game in the 11th and promptly retired the side. He got the win, his third of the season.
The Mets have now won nine straight games at Citi Field. It’s nice to see them win some extra-innings games and keep their home win streak alive. It’ll be much harder as Oliver Perez goes against Giants ace Tim Lincecum on Sunday afternoon.
Other game notes: Luis Castillo left the game in the eighth inning and was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his foot. Alex Cora came into the game to relieve him.
Barajas was not used as a pinch hitter, most likely to give his ailing finger an extra day of rest.
Jason Bay and Angel Pagan had two RBI each.
David Wright ended his 10-game hitting streak with three strikeouts, though he did walk twice.
