4 homers power Mets to walk-off win

Despite Francisco Rodriguez blowing his second save of the season, the Mets took the first game against the San Francisco Giants after Rod Barajas hit a two-run walk-off homer, his second jack of the night, to end the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Not to be outdone, Ike Davis also hit two out of the park in his first two at-bats against lefty Jonathan Sanchez. In addition to his offense, Davis made his second over-the-railing catch of the season to end the top of the eighth inning. It was Davis’s third home run of his young career. Barajas hit his eighth and ninth homers to lead the team.
Mike Pelfrey got the ball rolling, so to speak, as he pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed three runs. It was the longest outing by a Mets pitcher so far this season.
Pelfrey only threw 85 pitches, but with a runners on first and second and one out, Jerry Manuel opted to go to Fernando Nieve. Perhaps they feared Pelfrey was beginning to tire or they didn’t want to push him too far since coming off a sore shoulder earlier in the week.
The Mets won their eighth straight game at Citi Field and kept pace with the Phillies, who blanked the Braves 7-0. They also went a game ahead of the Nationals, who fell to the Marlins 4-2. It was nice to see the Mets win a tie game instead of blowing it.
Johan Santana hopes to make it two in a row Saturday afternoon.
