If the Mets were looking for some late-inning relief from an expensive off-season acquisition, they won’t get it from Kelvim Escobar. The New York Post reported that he is out the rest of the season for shoulder surgery. He’s getting $1.5 million before he even throws a single pitch. Pretty nice deal if you can get it.
Despite some lackluster production from the bench, The Daily News is reporting that the Mets aren’t looking to call up Chris Carter just yet. He’s been tearing it up in AAA with four home runs and a .348 batting average. The way the bench is currently constructed has them sitting in 11th place in terms of the bench batting average, according to Metsblog.com.
The folks at SILive.com ponder the question of who’s better for the Mets: Rod Barajas or Bengie Molina. Barajas sure has helped the Mets with clutch home runs as he’s now the leader of the team. His batting average isn’t as good as Molina’s, but he’s provided a lot more offense than last season’s catching duo.
