Francisco Rodriguez got his first save of the season last night as the Mets beat the Cubs 5-2 to win their first series. He is now tied with Mike Pelfrey for the most saves on the team. :-) Johan Santana got his second win of the season, allowing only a run on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Although Jeff Francoeur and David Wright broke out of their droughts with a hit and an RBI apiece, Jason Bay continues to struggle. Bay was 0-for-4, and his average has slipped to .224. Although Wright got a key hit, he still struck out three times.
To try to help Bay, Jerry Manuel has said he will move Jose Reyes down to the third hole in front of Bay. Bay has had trouble with off-speed pitches, so putting Reyes in front of him will hopefully get him some more fastballs. He’s still looking for his first home run with the team.
The Mets tonight will face the Atlanta Braves and rookie Jason Heyward as they try to continue their recent success. A series win would force the two teams to flip-flop in the standings. John Maine takes the mound and hopes to get his first win.
