Today’s Mets headlines

John Maine is set to take the mound tonight in the Mets’ second game of the season. Andy Martino of The Daily News gives a rundown of the starting rotation [1], sans Johan Santana who was predictably good in the opener despite coming off elbow surgery.  Whether he can keep it up is left to be seen.

Jose Reyes played a complete game in extended spring training [2] in Port St. Lucie and is looking good for a Saturday return, according to ESPNNewYork.com’s Adam Rubin.

David Wright arrived a month before training camp opened to work with Mets hitting coach Howard Johnson [3] to diagnose and fix his swing, writes The Record’s Steve Popper. It seemed to have worked, at least in the first game when Wright hit an opposite field homer in his first at-bat. He only needs 10 more to break last year’s output.

The Buffalo News has a story about how the Triple-A affiliate Bisons are poised to have a much better season [4] than the one in 2009 when they won just 56 games. They’re stacked with not-quite-ready-for-primetime players such as Fernando Martinez, Ike Davis and Josh Thole and former pro players Omir Santos and Nick Evans.

Our sister Web site, Pressconnects.com, has a preview about the AA affiliate Binghamton Mets [5]. Former pro call-up Eddie Kunz is scheduled to pitch the season opener.
