Jose Reyes returned to Mets camp today and worked out for 75 minutes, according to MLB.com. He was quite winded before taking questions in the locker room afterward. He said he’s working as fast as possible to return to the lineup, but he won’t know that until closer to Opening Day.
ESPN.com is reporting that former Mets All-Star Dwight Gooden is in trouble with the law again after his vehicle was involved in a two-car crash. He has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs in New Jersey after the accident in which a child passenger was riding with Gooden.
The Mets beat the Astros today in Grapefruit League play as Johan Santana had his best outing yet, even though he still allowed two runs. This time, however, it was in 5 2/3 innings. He should get one more start before Opening Day, but it almost looked like he was ready today. See the box score from today’s game.
The only significant rules change this season will be that there will be no off day between games four and five of the League Championship Series.
John Harper of The Daily News writes that Reyes will probably bat in the leadoff spot this season, despite what manager Jerry Manuel said earlier in the preseason about putting him third in the order.
