Reyes cleared to start playing again

Mets fans can rejoice as doctors have said that Jose Reyes’s thyroid levels have returned to normal, according to a report on ESPN.com. Reyes will head back down to Florida tomorrow to begin training again.
General Manager Omar Minaya is hesitant to say whether or not Reyes will be available for Opening Day. Although there are almost two weeks left, he still needs to get back in shape. He hasn’t done any strenuous physical activity since March 5.
You don’t want to rush him back for Opening Day just to see him go down soon after due to an injury that could’ve been prevented. Better to start him off on the DL for a couple of weeks and let him get his legs fully under him. It’s still better than the eight-week delay that could’ve been.
This news is sure to be a welcome boost for other starting position players, except perhaps for those like Ruben Tejada who are trying to make the Opening Day roster.
Now if the Mets can get equally good news from Carlos Beltran.
