Rejoice as baseball is back. The Mets’ pitchers and catchers, some automatic starters and others vying for some limited spots on the roster, report in less than an hour in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
As they prepare to warm up their arms and try to start developing some rapport on Saturday when the workouts begin, we’ll be keeping an eye out for injuries.
The 2010 season has kicked off with bang, or should I say a knee, as Carlos Beltran could be out for a few months of the regular season after he underwent controversial surgery on his arthritic joint.
Not to start the news season on a sour note, but this is the Mets we are talking about. Whom do you think will be next on the injury report?

I don’t get people who keep saying that the Mets have a 150 million dollar payroll and one of the top 5 payrolls in baseball when that is not the case for the upcoming season. Currently, the Mets payroll is at approximately 120 million dollars…That is roughly 25 million dollars lower than last season!!!! Also, the Yankees (approx. 200 million), Boston (approx. 170 million), the Phillies (approx. 140 million), the Cubs (approx. 130 million), and Detroit (if they sign Damon then approx. 130 million) all have higher payrolls than the Mets and therefore the Mets are not a top-5 payroll team…How can anyone not consider the Mets organization to be cheap when their payroll is 20 million less than division-rival Philidelphia!!!!! The Mets (being in NY, having their own tv station, new stadium, etc.) are a level ahead of all these teams in terms of earnings and should be competing with the Yankees for top draw in this town…This notion that they can never become more popular than the Yankees was already proven to be false in the ‘80s.
If you look at the projected payroll list of all the teams in baseball for the 2010 season you will see the there are about a dozen teams right behind the Mets in terms of payroll so 120 million dollars is not impressive anymore. So at first glance, 120 million dollar payroll doesn’t appear cheap. However, when it’s the payroll of a NY team then it’s very cheap!!!!! I’d rather have the Dolans running the Mets because at least they’re just inept..The Wilpons are inept AND cheap…Don’t tell me that the Dolans would not have at least a 170 million dollar payroll…That would have been enough make this team a World Series contender!!!!!
WOW! Thanks for the scoop on Beltran. Gee I bet you are the only one who knew Betran was out. hahahahahahahahahaha
