Johan Santana has been pitching with pain in his left elbow since the All-Star break and will miss his next start against the Marlins on Tuesday. The news comes just hours after it was announced that Jeff Francoeur had torn a ligament in his left thumb.
Santana will have his elbow examined. Jerry Manuel expressed that he is “terribly concerned,” which we’ve never really heard from him about any other player.
Nelson Figueroa will make the start.
Hopefully, this explains why he’s allowed 18 earned runs and has just two wins in his last six games. As Mets fans, you gotta just pray that it’s not something serious that could keep Santana out not only for this season but all of next, too.
