Francoeur day to day with torn ligament in thumb

The everyday player who has not had an injury in his Major League career has truly become a Met now. Jeff Francoeur has joined a bevy of other Mets who have been hurt this year. Francoeur has suffered a torn ligament in the thumb of his non-throwing hand. He sustained it while making a diving catch in the ninth inning of yesterday’s game.
It’s the same injury that Alex Cora just had surgery for. Hopefully, Francoeur won’t need surgery, at least until the end of the season. You just can’t be a true Met this year until you’ve been injured.

Is there any advantage to not going ahead with the surgery now?
Omar Minaya has said he wants to put the best team out on the field, so I’m sure they are trying to see if Francoeur can get through the injury like Alex Cora did. There’s still more than a month of baseball left and they want to still keep filling the stands as much as possible. The Mets are still attracting 30,000-40,000 fans to each game. If they can’t have a winning team, they might as well make as much money as they can.
