On a day when the 1969 Miracle Mets were celebrated in pre-game ceremonies, the Mets seemed to feed off the hoopla through the first five innings. Tim Redding was brilliant in his return to the rotation, allowing only one hit. Because he was on a pinch count, he was pulled after the fifth inning.
That’s when it fell apart for the Mets. Pat Misch came into the game and allowed a walk and a two-run home run to Chase Utley, who now has six home runs against the Mets this season. Sean Green relieved Misch but also allowed a run on two doubles.
The Mets took the lead in the second inning off of an Omir Santos RBI double that scored Jeff Francoeur. The run would be the only one the Mets got all night. Luis Castillo continued his hot streak with two more hits, raising his average to .317. Angel Pagan also had two hits.
Oliver Perez will face former teammate Pedro Martinez on Sunday afternoon. We’ll see what kind of reception Martinez gets. Would you boo him or cheer him?
