Alex Cora has given two thumbs down to continuing on this season. He will get surgery on not one, but both of them. He will get surgery on one, and five weeks later will have his other thumb worked on.
Cora has been a trouper all season. He’s done all the Mets have asked of him and more. Not only was he a solid defender and batter, he was also a veteran leader when he needed to be. He’s now the second shortstop to be placed on the disabled list for the Mets this year.
A player to be named will need to be called up from the 40-man roster that only has 39 people on it as it is. Utility infielder Andy Green was called up today to take David Wright’s roster spot. With Cora out, Green could see playing time at shortstop while Fernando Tatis continues to man third, but the majority of innings will probably be taken by Anderson Hernandez.
