Pedro wins first game with Phillies

Posted by: James Kwasnik - Posted in Uncategorized on Aug 13, 2009

He didn’t last long, but former Mets pitcher and current Phillies starter Pedro Martinez pitched well enough to earn the win against the Cubs. It was more of an offensive outburst than Martinez’s pitching that won the Phils the game.

Martinez pitched just five innings, allowing three runs and striking out five. He got a ton of run support as the Phillies scored seven earned runs vs. Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija. Cubs reliever Sean Marshall allowed five more runs to put the game way out of reach.

So, Martinez was able to make a marginal comeback effort throwing 99 pitches before he was yanked for Chan Ho Park, who pitched three scoreless innings. He won his first game with his new team.
