It should be a pretty good pitching matchup tonight as the Mets face Cardinals starter Joel Pineiro, who actually has a better ERA (2.84) than Santana but a worse overall record at 9-9. The Mets have yet to beat Pineiro in five of his starts in which he had a 2.91 ERA. On the other hand, the Cardinals have yet to beat Santana in his two starts against them. Santana is 3-0 with a .43 ERA in his last three home games at Citi Field.
The Diamondbacks’ Dan Haren was supposed to shut the Mets down last night but they scored five runs off him instead. It didn’t lead to a win, but they still had nine hits and plenty of runs if Nelson Figueroa hadn’t let them down in his two innings pitched. Let’s hope the Mets can do the same kind of damage against Pineiro.
