Former American League Rookie of the Year Angel Berroa has signed with the Mets and will replace Argenis Reyes on the roster starting tonight in Atlanta. Reyes was optioned back to Triple-A Buffalo on July 13. Poor Reyes has been bouncing up and down like a yo-yo from the minors to the majors. Reyes spent his last stint at Buffalo just one full day before being called up again.
The Mets picked up Berroa from the Yankees earlier this year where he hit just .136 in 22 at-bats. He should have a bit more pop in his bat than Reyes as he hit 17 home runs in his Rookie of the Year season in 2003. However, if you can’t make good contact on the ball, it’s hard to hit it out of any stadium.
