Perez is back and starting for the Mets tonight for the first time since May. There’s been much talked about Perez and is “rehab” assignment. The news coming out of his rehab starts in the minors is not encouraging. Although he’s been declared ready for the big leagues, Perez allowed nine runs, seven earned, in 12 1/3 innings in three Minor League starts. In his last game at Triple-A Buffalo, he threw 92 pitches, but only half of them for strikes. He walked four batters, back to his old self.
In truth, it doesn’t really matter how well or badly Perez pitches in his first outing. He could pitch a scoreless six innings, but if the Mets can’t muster a single run, then what’s it matter? For those who are old enough, we could turn every Mets game into a drinking game. Every time a Met gets a hit, take a drink. I’m referring to non-alcoholic, of course! ;-) The problem is playing this game wouldn’t have the desired effect since the Mets don’t get many hits these days.
You might say that today’s performance may portend how Perez’s season will go. Unfortunately, as we all know, Perez can be brilliant one game and horrible the next. Granted, Perez was truly horrendous before he went on the disabled list. So, pretty much any outing would be better than his first five games of the season when he walked an average of one batter per inning in 21 innings.
In other news, Argenis Reyes was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to make room on the roster for Perez. Former starter Tim Redding, who pitched two solid innings last night in relief, is already in the bullpen. So long, Reyes. Thanks for nothing. Can’t anyone they bring up from the Minors hit? If not, it’s truly a weak farm system.

I don’t know who perez is, but he must be a very average baseball player. But if you have any drinking games you’d like to submit to my site, then I would appreciate it. I’ll even give a link back to your site
