The Mets had a day off coming into this game and they surely needed it. As David Wright said, the Mets need to develop a case of amnesia over the weekend series vs. the Phillies, who seemed to have used the sweep to get back on track at home. They drubbed the Reds for 22 runs in yesterday’s game. Yes, you read that correctly: 22 runs.

The Mets are now 4 1/2 games out of first place and fading fast. If they can just get through to the All-Star break, they might have a chance. But it’s not going to be easy as they have a three-game series vs. the Cardinals Dodgers starting tonight and then three games against the equally hapless Reds. If they can take one from the Cardinals Dodgers and two from the Reds, that would make me moderately happy.
