Today’s Mets starting lineup

July
1

Alex Cora SS
Luis Castillo 2B
David Wright 3B
Ryan Church RF
Nick Evans LF
Daniel Murphy 1B
Fernando Martinez CF
Brian Schneider C
Mike Pelfrey (5-3, 4.67 ERA) P

The Mets have an uphill battle today as they face Yovani Gallardo, who is 8-4 with a 2.86 ERA. The Mets beat the Brewers the last time they faced him in April, but that was a 1-0 win and Johan Santana pitched brilliantly. Gallardo got a no-decision.

Jerry Manuel decided to give Gary Sheffield the day off, but Wright is still in the lineup after there was some talk of resting him as well. That leaves Church in the cleanup spot. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles it.
