Redding gets to pitch against his former team. The Mets really need him to have a good outing tonight with the Phillies showing no signs of letting up as they beat the Dodgers last night in the first game of a four-game series.
With JJ Putz on the disabled list, it looks like Bobby Parnell will definitely be the new setup man and maybe the resurgent Sean Green will be the seventh-inning guy.
You’d think the Mets could beat up on the Nationals, but not if they pitched like they did yesterday. The Nats have some dangerous hitters in their lineup that could make it a dreary night for Redding, despite the gloomy weather.
The top of the Mets order really needs to get on base. That’s what hurt the team yesterday in the loss to Pittsburgh. Alex Cora and Luis Castillo contributed offensively but did not get on base when Beltran hit his homer or his double. That could’ve given the Mets some more runs and kept the game closer.
