From USA Today
- Alex Cora expects to be activated from the disabled list today after spending the weekend on a rehab assignment with AAA Buffalo. Cora, who has a torn ligament in his right thumb, likely will require surgery after the season.
- Jose Reyes (calf) is scheduled to play today in an extended spring-training game in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is on target to be activated from the disabled list when eligible Friday. When and if that happens, which player gets sent down? Ramon Martinez or Wilson Valdez?
- Ryan Church (hamstring) also is scheduled to play in an extended spring-training game in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is on target to be activated from the disabled list when eligible on Sunday. Who will make way for him on the roster when he’s back? Will Fernando Martinez get sent back down?
- Gary Sheffield pledged to play through discomfort in the back of his right knee. Sheffield moved gingerly during Monday’s game while going first-to-third on a double by Jeremy Reed.
- Carlos Beltran will not play in tonight’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates as he’s still not over his stomach virus. The question when he’s finally over it is his strength and endurance after having not played for a week.
