Daniel Murphy 1B
Ryan Church RF
Carlos Beltran CF
Gary Sheffield DH
David Wright 3B
Jeremy Reed LF
Omir Santos C
Ramon Martinez SS
Luis Castillo 2B
How different a lineup looks when you’re playing in an American League stadium during Interleague Play. Church is batting second! Hopefully, that’ll give him some fat pitches to swing at with Beltran, Sheffield and Wright backing him up. Batting Murphy at leadoff is a risk, especially since he’s been struggling at the plate. The Mets need the patient Murphy tonight, not the inexperienced one.
Sheffield is the designated hitter, which seems to be a no-brainer. He gets to face an old nemesis in the Red Sox. It’s kind of weird now, remembering back when Sheffield was in a Yankees jersey facing this team. Now he’s coming from the same city but in a different uniform.
It’s interesting that Castillo is batting last, with the weak-hitting Martinez in front of him. I guess when it comes to that far down in the order, it doesn’t matter who’s last.
Are you excited? This weekend, it’s New York that’s the city of brotherly love as both Yankees and Mets fans join forces to root for each other’s team to beat their rivals. The Mets and Yankees are both in similar situations. The Mets are 1 1/2 games behind the Phillies for first place. The Yankees are a game behind the Red Sox for second place. If the two teams sweep and with a little help from some Blue Jays losses, both teams could be sitting in first place by the end of the weekend. Will it happen? Probably not, but it’ll be fun watching.
Go New York and enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend!
