Reyes returns to the lineup and Gary Sheffield, Ramon Castro, Fernando Tatis and Angel Pagan sit as the team faces right-hander the Dodgers’ Chad Billingsley. It’s good to see Reyes back at the top of the order after missing five games.
Murphy gets a chance to get some at-bats to hopefully get off his slump, but he is not playing first base. Rather, Reed, who’s inexperience at first showed in last night’s game, gets another shot to redeem himself.
I’m not sure what the reluctance is to put Murphy at first and stick Reed in left field. You would think that since Murphy is a natural first baseman and Jeremy Reed is a very solid outfielder, they would actually play in those positions but skipper Jerry Manuel has made a lot of questionable decisions over the past few weeks.
