Alex Cora is the latest Met to be bitten by the injury bug. He hurt his hand sliding into second base in the first inning of yesterday’s game and left after the third inning. Fernando Tatis, who has only played the position three times in his career, came in to relieve him.
All of this was because Jose Reyes was still out of the lineup due to mild tendinitis in his right leg. The Mets are hoping he’ll rejoin the starting lineup tonight.
Cora’s injury is just one in a list of ailments that are piling up. Here is the status of the rest of the team’s injuries and where they stand in terms of recuperation.
The Mets can’t really afford to lose any more position players as even some of the Minor League prospects are hurt. As it is, Jerry Manuel already has had to mix and match players, who haven’t played those positions in years or none at all as a pro.
