Last week’s question was: If you were the Mets’ manager and you could do whatever you wanted with Oliver Perez, what would you do?
It’s kind of moot point now because the Mets placed Perez on the disabled list for an injured knee, but you’re still entitled to your opinion. Here is how you voted.
Send him down to the Minors: 44%
Stick him in the bullpen: 8%
Give him one more start: 12%
Stick him in the dunking booth at Citi Field: 36%
Luckily, Ollie’s knee helped make the decision for the Mets, even though they initially stuck him in the bullpen. This will give the Mets the opportunity to give Perez an extended Spring Training, which he really needed. Pitching in the World Baseball Classic did not help him because he did not have the structured setting he needed to really get back into shape and into fighting form again. These 15 days will allow the Mets to break him down and build him back up again, the way he should’ve been from the start.
With Perez on the disabled list, the Mets finally seem to be clicking. They’ve won seven in a row and swept three teams in a row, although two of them were two-game series. The offense is producing runs and the pitching is holding up.
A winning streak is not the time to be sitting on their laurels. There are always improvements to be made and concerns to be had.
This week’s poll question is: Now that the Mets are winning, what are your concerns about the team?
