Mets catcher Brian Schneider is still rehabbing, and it looks like he still won’t be back for a while. He’ll play in an extended Spring Training game next week. He’ll then have to play a couple of Minor League games before joining the big league roster.
Schneider can take his time as far as I’m concerned. Both Ramon Castro and Omir Santos have played better than he probably would have. Santos is a surprisingly good defensive catcher and solid hitter. Castro has hit well lately, too.
Schneider has been too streaky at the plate and is only fairly successful at throwing runners out. He seems to be a good signal caller, though. The point is the Mets haven’t suffered due to Schneider’s being on the disabled list. His coming back now could rock the boat.
